Reed-Bed Survey and Reed Harvest in Omihachiman!

We conducted a reed harvest for survey purposes in the reed beds around Lake Nishinoko—the largest inland lagoon adjacent to Lake Biwa—located in Maruyama-cho, Omihachiman City. At multiple points in Maruyama-cho, we measured reed density per unit area, mean stand height, and biomass to examine differences by location and management conditions. The weather was fine and pleasantly warm, and we enjoyed a productive day working up a sweat during the reed harvest.
