Kura-Hotel Akashi | 蔵宿あかし

This project involved the renovation of an earthen storehouse (dozō) over 100 years old, located in Hakodate City. The structure follows a traditional Japanese system, consisting of evenly spaced posts and horizontal tie beams (nuki) forming a lattice frame, with thick earthen walls. The walls of this building are exceptionally thick—approximately 300 mm for the walls and the roof. While such walls can provide sufficient structural strength if well-preserved, their current condition is difficult to fully assess. Therefore, the renovation incorporates structural plywood reinforcements to ensure that the building meets current structural safety standards even on their own.

函館市内にある築100年を超える土蔵の改修計画。土蔵の構造は一般的な均等間隔の柱と貫による格子貫および土壁である。本建築物の土壁は非常に厚く，壁・屋根ともに300 mmに及ぶ。したがって土壁の保存状況が良好であればじゅうぶんな構造耐力を持つと考えられるものの，保存状況を精査することは困難であるため，構造用合板による補強を併用し，それのみでも現行の建築基準法相当の耐力を確保する計画としている。
