RUT BRYK Touch of a Butterfly

This project involved the spatial design for an exhibition held at the Tokyo Station Gallery, featuring Rut Bryk, one of Finland’s leading ceramic artists. At the center of the exhibition space stood a large display platform, reaching a height of 3 meters and supporting numerous heavy ceramic works. Structural design measures were implemented to prevent deformation or toppling of the platform during seismic events.
The platform was constructed with a framework of 30×30 mm timber members arranged in a grid and covered on both sides with a mesh-like paper material called woodnote, creating a semi-transparent and uniquely textured appearance. Strength tests confirmed the structural capacity of the woodnote, ensuring sufficient shear rigidity of the display structure.
To provide horizontal stiffness, circular steel reinforcement rings were subtly integrated within the interior of the platform, inscribed within a triangular plan so as not to interfere with the visual design.

東京ステーションギャラリーで開催されたフィンランドを代表するセラミック・アーティストであるルート・ブリュックの展覧会の会場構成。展示室中央にある大型の展示台は高さ3 mに及び，重量の大きなセラミック作品が数多く取りつけられるため，地震時の変形や転倒を防止するための構造設計を行った。30×30 mmの木材を格子状に組んだ骨組みの両面にメッシュ状の紙製品（woodnote）を貼り付けて覆った構造であり，半透明の独特の透け感を持つ展示台となっている。実験によりwoodnoteの強度を確認し，什器のせん断剛性をじゅうぶんに確保した。また，什器内部に目立たないように円形に加工した鉄筋のリングを三角形の平面に内接するように配置し，水平剛性を確保している。
