Tokyo Gasshuku-jo | 東京合宿所

The building features a large shared atrium at the center of its plan, around which private rooms are arranged in a complex double-helix configuration. At the top floor, where the two helices merge, there is a shared living and dining area as well as a rooftop garden. The private rooms are cantilevered outward from the central atrium core. Since the cantilevered rooms cannot be realized with floor slabs alone, the partition walls between rooms and the upturned edges of the floor level differences are designed to function as wall beams, enabling the structure. The reactions of these wall beams are carefully transferred to the core walls for structural efficiency.
Furthermore, seismic forces acting on the building are largely transmitted to and managed by the central atrium core through these partition walls and floor level transitions.

平面の中央に大きな共有の吹抜け空間を持ち，その周りに居室が二重螺旋状に上りながら取りつく複雑な構成である。二重螺旋が合流する最上階は共有のリビング・ダイニングと屋上庭園がある。居室は吹抜けをコアとして片持ち状に外に向かって跳ね出している。片持ちの居室は，上下スラブのみでは実現が難しいため，居室間の界壁と床の段差部の立上りを壁梁として働かせることで実現している。その際，壁梁の反力はコア壁に有効に伝達できるよう配慮した。
また，建物に生じる地震力は，この界壁や床段差を通じ大半を中央の吹抜けコアに伝達して処理している。
